FiFty Fanfares is a work by Irish Composer Michael Alcorn scored for 34 trumpets and 16 trombones which are spatially distributed in a large space. Example performance locations include shopping centres, foyers in large buildings and concert halls. Each player uses an iPod touch to provide cues and synchronisation information for the performance.
For this project, I developed a system that synchronises a smart metronome iOS application over ad hoc networks from a central computer, allowing for the piece to be run by a virtual conductor in a unique setting where performers are distributed over a large space where it would be impossible to conduct by traditional means.
I also did the full editing and design of the musical score and the individual parts performed by all fifty musicians.
